Breaking News: Albanian Prosecutors Investigate Resort Land Deeds

Albanian prosecutors are investigating potential forgery of land deeds linked to a resort project backed by Jared Kushner. The Special Structure Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) is examining the sale of protected coastline land to Albania Land Development.

Artur Shehu, a businessman based in Miami, is named as the seller. Prosecutors allege that Shehu and his associates used falsified titles and laundered money from drug trafficking, freezing approximately 110 million euros connected to the sale.

Shehu’s lawyer, Kujtim Cakrani, denied the allegations, stating that Shehu legally sold land owned by his family for generations. He also mentioned that Shehu fled to the U.S. after experiencing violence in Albania.

The investigation coincides with ongoing protests against the resort project, which is situated in environmentally sensitive areas. Demonstrations have escalated into broader calls for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama over corruption accusations.

Recent clashes between police and protesters resulted in injuries and arrests. A court has released some detainees while placing others under restrictions. The government claims the project adheres to legal standards.
