Breaking News: Elye Wahi Denied Entry to Canada for World Cup Match

Ivory Coast international Elye Wahi has been denied entry to Canada ahead of his team’s World Cup match against Germany on Saturday. The Nice forward was reportedly arrested last month for alleged involvement in spot-fixing.

Wahi, 23, is accused of deliberately earning a yellow card while playing for Nice against Metz in May. Spot-fixing involves manipulating match incidents for betting purposes. The public prosecutor’s office in Marseille confirmed the arrest without naming Wahi.

The Ligue de Football (LFP) reported an unusually high volume of bets placed on incidents involving Wahi. The Ivory Coast Football Federation (FIF) stated they had not received any official notification of legal proceedings against him but confirmed he could not obtain authorization to enter Canada.

Wahi will remain in the United States while the team competes in Canada. The investigations into the allegations are ongoing, and Wahi’s representatives have been contacted for comment.

This marks the second instance of a World Cup player being denied entry to Canada, following Ghana’s Thomas Partey, who was refused a visa due to ongoing criminal proceedings in the UK.
