Breaking News: Lula Warns U.S. Not to Interfere in Brazil’s Elections
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has issued a warning to the United States regarding its involvement in Brazil’s upcoming presidential election, scheduled for October. His comments came during a news conference following the Group of 7 (G7) summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, where he met U.S. President Donald Trump.
Lula stated that while Trump can maintain his ties with the Bolsonaro family, he emphasized that U.S. interference in Brazilian elections is unacceptable. “Don’t meddle in the Brazilian elections,” Lula said, asserting that elections in Brazil are a domestic issue.
Lula is a leading candidate in the upcoming election, aiming for a fourth term. His main rival is Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, the eldest son of former President Jair Bolsonaro. Lula expressed a desire for mutual respect between the two nations.
Trump, who has been accused of attempting to influence elections in Latin America, commented on Brazil’s political climate, describing it as “rough” and “dangerous.” Lula responded by questioning Trump’s understanding of Brazil, suggesting his knowledge is limited to his relationship with the Bolsonaro family.
