Breaking News: Funeral of Iran’s Supreme Leader
Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was absent from his father’s funeral on Sunday. Thousands attended the service for the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, including his other sons—Masoud, Mostafa, and Meysam. High-ranking officials, such as President Masoud Pezeshkian and Revolutionary Guards chief Ahmad Vahidi, were also present.
Speculation surrounds Mojtaba Khamenei’s absence, with rumors suggesting he may have been injured in the recent US-Israel air strikes that killed his father. Since his appointment in early March, he has not been seen in public.
Funeral proceedings for the elder Khamenei began on Friday, with events scheduled across Iran and Iraq over the next week. Authorities estimate that 12 to 20 million people are expected to attend, dubbing it the “funeral of the century.”
Khamenei’s body is currently lying in state at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla religious complex. The funeral service is being led by prominent Shia cleric Jafar Sobhani, a 97-year-old scholar from Qom.
