Breaking News: Rescue and Tragedy in Venezuela
In La Guaira, Venezuela, three young siblings were rescued from rubble after a recent earthquake. Footage on state television showed the children emerging covered in dust. A man was seen calling to the first child as she appeared from the debris.
The second sibling followed, confirming to the man that there were three of them. The third sister emerged later, crying and also covered in dust.
Tragedy struck as well. Héctor Bello, a Venezuelan footballer, announced on social media that his wife, Andrea, died while saving their daughter during the earthquake. He expressed gratitude for her bravery.
Reports indicate that one Portuguese national and two Brazilians were among the fatalities. Four Spanish citizens also lost their lives, with 106 individuals still unaccounted for.
Venezuela’s Interior Minister, Diosdado Cabello, stated that multiple states were affected by the twin earthquakes. The neighborhoods of Los Palos Grandes and Altamira in Caracas were particularly hard hit. Aftershocks have mostly impacted the northern coastline, including La Guaira, Aragua, Carabobo, and Falcón.
