Breaking News: Two Riders Die in Separate Eventing Accidents
Two riders have died in separate incidents during cross-country competitions on Saturday, according to British Eventing.
Sophie Fouracre, 34, suffered fatal injuries while riding Rhubarbsfox Brittania at Swalcliffe Park in Oxfordshire. Hours later, 42-year-old Kerry Donoghue died while riding Carneyhaugh Rua in a different event at Penrith in Cumbria.
Emergency medical teams responded quickly at both locations but were unable to save either rider. British Eventing expressed condolences to the families and friends of both riders.
The organization thanked the medical and emergency personnel for their efforts during these tragic events. Both competitions have been abandoned for the weekend.
Investigations into the accidents are underway, and both horses involved were found to be uninjured. The mental health charity Riders Minds has offered immediate support to those affected in the eventing community.
