Breaking News: StubHub UK Fined and Ordered to Refund Customers
Ticket reseller StubHub UK has been ordered to refund over 50,000 customers and pay a £900,000 fine. This decision follows an investigation by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) for not displaying the total price upfront when selling tickets.
Each affected customer is expected to receive an average refund of £10. StubHub UK will reach out to customers regarding the refunds. The company stated that the hidden fees resulted from an “isolated platform error” that caused some charges to appear only at checkout.
The CMA found that between April 6 and December 7 last year, customers purchasing tickets were hit with mandatory fees, such as delivery and service charges, added only at the final checkout stage.
StubHub UK admitted to violating the law and received a 40% reduction in its fine. The CMA emphasized that hidden fees are illegal and warned businesses to be transparent about costs.
The CMA is also investigating other companies for similar practices. An update on the ongoing investigation into Viagogo is expected later this summer.
