Breaking News: Armed Attacks in Northern Mali

Armed fighters launched multiple attacks in Mali on Saturday, targeting five locations, including a northern town where Malian troops and Russian fighters are stationed. The attacks occurred early in the morning, around 5 AM local time.

The Malian army reported assaults in Aguelhok, Anefis, Gao, Sevare, and Kenieroba. A prison in Kenieroba was specifically mentioned as being under attack, according to local residents and security sources.

A Tuareg-led group, the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA), claimed responsibility for the attack on Anefis in the northeastern Kidal region. Spokesperson Mohamed Elmaouloud Ramadane stated that “several positions have fallen,” but fighting continues in the town. An Anefis resident confirmed that armed groups are present, but the army is still resisting.

In Gao, local officials reported gunfire and rocket attacks targeting a military camp. In Sevare, explosions were heard, and aircraft were seen flying over the area. The situation remains tense as the military-led government faces ongoing threats from armed groups in the region.
