Breaking: Typhoon Maysak Causes Severe Flooding in Guangxi, Displacing Tens of Thousands and Resulting in At Least 17 Deaths

Breaking News: Severe Flooding in Guangxi, China

On Sunday, heavy rain began in Renhe village, Guangxi province, southern China. The rain continued without stopping, causing water levels to rise suddenly.

By early Monday, the water was knee-deep. By dawn, it submerged the first floors of homes. Villagers, including Zhou, reported that the floods came quickly, leaving them no time to gather food before evacuating.

Typhoon Maysak has displaced tens of thousands in Guangxi. At least four people have died due to the flooding, which has affected the city of Nanning and nearby areas. Residents have called for rescue from rooftops.

The typhoon has also caused thunderstorms and tornadoes in Hubei province, hundreds of kilometers away. State media report at least 17 deaths and hundreds injured, with tens of thousands evacuated.

President Xi Jinping has ordered urgent rescue operations. Maysak is the first typhoon of the 2026 season and is noted for its sudden intensity.

Authorities warn that heavy rain may hinder rescue efforts. Another storm, Super Typhoon Bavi, is expected to approach China’s eastern coast later this week.
