Breaking News: Huawei Executive’s Admission Used in U.S. Trial
A U.S. judge has ruled that an admission by Huawei’s Chief Financial Officer, Meng Wanzhou, can be used in an upcoming trial against the company. This decision was made in Brooklyn federal court on June 17, 2026.
Meng admitted in 2021 that Huawei conducted illegal business in Iran as part of a deal to dismiss criminal charges against her. She faced accusations of bank fraud related to violating U.S. sanctions. In her statement, Meng acknowledged misleading a financial institution regarding Huawei’s compliance with these sanctions.
U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly stated that Meng’s admission, as a senior executive of Huawei, is relevant to the case. The judge dismissed Huawei’s argument that it should remain silent regarding Meng’s statement.
A spokesperson for Huawei did not respond to requests for comment. The trial is scheduled for jury selection on September 8, 2026.
This ruling marks a significant development in the ongoing legal issues faced by Huawei, which has been under scrutiny for its business practices in the U.S.
