Ecuador Faces Surge in Drug Crime as Police Tackle Rising Violence Linked to Colombian and Peruvian Trafficking

Breaking News: Surge in Drug Crime in Ecuador

Ecuador is experiencing a significant increase in drug-related crime. The country’s police are working to address this issue as drugs flow in from neighboring Colombia and Peru, the world’s largest producers of cocaine.

Local gangs, some with connections to Mexican cartels and Albanian mafia groups, are facilitating the smuggling of cocaine to other regions.

In 2022, Ecuador reported one of the highest murder rates in the world, with over 9,200 homicides, according to the interior ministry.

Authorities are intensifying efforts to combat this violence and drug trafficking.
