Breaking News: Marine Le Pen to Run for Presidency in 2027
Marine Le Pen, the leader of France’s National Rally party, has announced her candidacy for the 2027 presidential election. She made this declaration during a television interview, stating, “I am here tonight to tell you I am a candidate for the 2027 elections.”
Le Pen is currently appealing an embezzlement conviction that requires her to wear an electronic tag for one year. A Paris appeal court found her guilty of misusing €2.8 million in EU funds. Despite this ruling, she can still run for president while wearing the tag.
Le Pen expressed her determination to clear her name, saying she would pursue all legal options to defend her innocence. Public prosecutors have also indicated they will appeal the court’s decision.
Her announcement comes less than ten months before the first round of elections, scheduled for April and May 2027. If her appeal is unsuccessful, the electronic tag could complicate her campaign.
Le Pen has indicated that she plans to work closely with Jordan Bardella, the president of her party, should she win the presidency.
