Urgent: MV Hondius Heads to Canary Islands for Passenger Evacuation After Hantavirus Outbreak Claims Three Lives

Breaking News: MV Hondius Heads to Canary Islands for Evacuation

The MV Hondius is sailing towards Spain’s Canary Islands for the evacuation of all passengers. The ship has been anchored near Cape Verde for three days.

Three people have died, either on board or after traveling on the ship, due to a hantavirus outbreak.

The cruise ship set off from Argentina a month ago. It is expected to dock at Granadilla port in Tenerife, according to Spain’s health minister, Monica Garcia.

Upon arrival, everyone on board will undergo a medical assessment. Those deemed fit to travel will be repatriated to their home countries, Garcia confirmed.

Residents in Tenerife have expressed concerns about the ship’s arrival, fearing potential health risks. One local stated, “I don’t think it’s a good idea… but people do need help.”

Further updates will follow as the situation develops.
