Breaking News: Displaced Families Struggle in Cambodia
Preah Vihear/Siem Reap provinces – Over 34,440 people remain in displacement camps in Cambodia due to recent conflicts between Thailand and Cambodia. Among them are 11,355 children.
Eleven-year-old Sokna now spends her days doing chores instead of attending school. Her family lives in a tent at a Buddhist pagoda after fleeing violence in Thailand. Many families report similar struggles, relying on aid donations for survival.
Local authorities have provided some families with wooden houses, but many remain in temporary shelters. The ongoing tension at the border has made it difficult for displaced people to return home. Areas near the border are heavily militarized, with troops on high alert.
Education for children has been disrupted. While primary school students can attend classes nearby, high school students face challenges traveling long distances. Reports indicate that school dropout rates are increasing among displaced children.
Community leaders express concern about the psychological impact of the conflict on children. Many families feel uncertain about their futures as the ceasefire remains fragile.
