Breaking News: Former Olympian Pleads Not Guilty to Vandalism

Former US Olympian David “Davey” Hearn has pleaded not guilty to vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. This took place during a court appearance in Washington, DC.

Hearn is accused of causing $1,000 in damages and faces a felony charge of destruction of property. He was detained last month after allegedly touching newly applied material at the pool. President Donald Trump has blamed vandals for damage to the pool’s coating.

Hearn’s attorney, Norm Eisen, stated that touching the Reflecting Pool should not be a crime. Hearn, 67, is a three-time Olympic canoeist and is scheduled to return to court on August 5.

Authorities allege that Hearn deliberately damaged the sealant on June 19. Hearn has denied these claims, stating he did not destroy or remove any part of the paint.

Five others have been arrested for vandalism related to the Reflecting Pool, and five additional individuals have received federal citations. The Reflecting Pool recently underwent a $13 million renovation, aimed at addressing ongoing structural issues.
