Breaking News: Severe Flooding in Accra, Ghana

At least 13 people have died in Accra, Ghana, due to severe flooding caused by torrential rain. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is involved in ongoing rescue efforts.

The government has advised residents to stay indoors or move to higher ground. The meteorological agency has warned of more rain and a major storm approaching from the east.

Recovery operations are underway as floodwaters from Sunday night’s downpour begin to recede. The GNFS reports that over 470 people have been rescued so far. Low-lying areas have been heavily impacted, with many homes and vehicles submerged.

Emergency response teams, including police, fire service, military, and the National Disaster Management Organisation, have been deployed to the affected regions. The interior ministry is monitoring the situation to protect lives and property.

Residents have been warned not to travel through flooded areas. The president’s office urged, “Stay indoors if you are in a safe location. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads.”

The Ghana Meteorological Agency expects further rain on Tuesday, increasing the risk of additional flooding. Residents are advised to avoid sheltering under trees and stay clear of loose electrical wires.
