Breaking: England to Announce Squad for New Zealand Series Amid Bowling Selection Concerns; First Test Set for June 4

Breaking News: England Squad Announcement for New Zealand Series Expected

England is set to announce its squad for the New Zealand Test series in mid-May. The first Test will begin on June 4. Attention will focus on the bowling selections.

Last summer, Chris Woakes, along with Stuart Broad and James Anderson, retired from Test cricket. Mark Wood is still recovering from a knee injury, having played only 11 overs in the recent Ashes Test. Brydon Carse is also injured, while Jofra Archer is currently participating in the Indian Premier League. Matthew Potts struggled during the Ashes, leaving Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue as likely candidates for the squad.

The situation opens the door for Ollie Robinson to return as a leading bowler. Sam Cook, who played one Test against Zimbabwe, is also a contender. Additionally, 23-year-old Sonny Baker, who has been clocked at 92 mph this season, could be a surprise selection.

Robinson expressed his commitment to cricket, stating, “My mind is on cricket and nothing else.” He also mentioned feeling more prepared now than when he first joined the England team.
