Breaking News Report: Tensions Rise in the Strait of Hormuz
Centcom has confirmed a third night of attacks aimed at US military facilities. Iran’s state media reported explosions in several cities, including Bushehr, which houses a nuclear power plant.
Tehran claims to have targeted US locations in Bahrain and Jordan, following attacks on two tankers in the United Arab Emirates. The ongoing strikes highlight the strategic significance of the Strait of Hormuz.
On Monday, US President Trump stated that the US would act as the “guardian” of the Strait and announced plans to impose a 20% charge on all cargo passing through. He later modified this plan, suggesting instead that Gulf states invest in the US.
Trump emphasized that the strait remains open to all shipping except for Iran. In response, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister declared that the country would maintain control over the waterway.
Shipping traffic through the strait has slowed to a two-month low, and oil prices have surged. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu warned that any attack on Israel would lead to a stronger retaliation.
