Breaking News: Man Charged with Assisting Iran’s Intelligence Service
A 39-year-old man has been charged with assisting Iran’s intelligence service. Vahid Aberi, from Liverpool, was arrested in Birmingham on Wednesday following an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing.
Aberi was taken to a West Midlands police station. Detectives later conducted searches at properties in Birmingham and Liverpool as part of their investigation.
He has been charged under the National Security Act 2023 and is scheduled to appear in Westminster Magistrates’ Court later today.
Commander Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, stated that there has been a significant increase in national security investigations in recent years. She emphasized that this case demonstrates their efforts to disrupt suspected activities linked to foreign intelligence services.
Flanagan assured the public that no direct threat has been identified to them or to any community or individual related to this investigation.
