Breaking News: Record Heat in England and the UK
England experienced its warmest June and the second warmest on record for the UK, according to the Met Office. The average temperature for June reached 17.1°C, nearly 3°C above normal.
On June 26, 2026, Lingwood, Norfolk, recorded the highest June temperature ever at 37.7°C (99.9°F). This surpassed the previous record of 35.6°C (96°F) set in 1957.
A red extreme heat warning was issued for parts of England and Wales. In some eastern regions, this warning was in effect for three consecutive days.
Wales also recorded its second warmest June. Cardiff hit 35.9°C (96.6°F) on June 25, breaking the previous record of 33.7°C (92.6°F).
Northern Ireland matched its June record with a temperature of 30.8°C (87.4°F) in Castlederg, County Tyrone.
These June records follow a heatwave in May, where temperatures reached 35.1°C in Kew, London, breaking the previous high of 32.8°C set in 1922.
