Breaking News: Wildfires Threaten Bordeaux, Evacuations Underway
Firefighters in south-west France are struggling to control wildfires as strong winds push flames toward the city of Bordeaux. An official stated that they “are far from having the fire under control.”
Over 250,000 people have fled wildfires in France and Spain, which have been burning for days. Seven towns west of Bordeaux were ordered to evacuate overnight.
In Spain, a state of emergency has been declared. Weather changes have aided firefighters near Madrid, but challenges remain. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez acknowledged that “complex times” lie ahead. Authorities in València reported the death of a man in his 70s, found in his car during firefighting efforts in Manises.
In France, around 200,000 residents have been evacuated from the Gironde and Landes regions. The French military has been mobilized to assist, with extra army reinforcements sent to help clear brush and create fire breaks.
Firefighting efforts continue as the situation remains critical.
