May 21, 2026
More than 2,000 people gathered in a San Diego park on Thursday to honor three men killed in a shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego. The victims were 51-year-old Amin Abdullah, 78-year-old Mansour Kaziha, and 57-year-old Nadir Awad.
Attendees, including uniformed police officers, participated in the Islamic funeral prayer, known as Janazah. The bodies of the three men were covered and displayed under a white canopy.
The shooting occurred on Monday when two teenage suspects opened fire at the mosque during school hours. Witnesses described the three men as heroes for their efforts to delay the attackers, allowing children and staff to seek safety.
Imam Taha Hassane addressed the crowd, emphasizing the strength of the community despite the tragedy. The men are set to be buried together later today at a nearby cemetery.
The shooting is being investigated as a targeted attack, with authorities considering it a hate crime. The suspects were later found dead from self-inflicted injuries.
