Breaking News: Rape Case Sentences Under Review
A girl who was raped by two teenage boys has spoken out about her fears after they were not given prison sentences. She and her parents shared their story anonymously with BBC Newsnight presenter Victoria Derbyshire.
The girl expressed her desire for “freedom” from fear, stating, “I just want to be able to go for a walk without being scared that I’m going to see them.”
Her father criticized the decision, saying the boys should have received custodial sentences due to the lifelong impact of the attack on his daughter.
The two boys, aged 14 at the time of the crime, were convicted of rape, while a third boy, then 13, was found guilty of aiding and abetting the attack. Their sentences, which included youth rehabilitation orders, are now being referred to the Court of Appeal following public outcry.
The review aims to reassess the appropriateness of the original sentences.
