ICE Agent Christian Castro Arrested in Texas for Shooting Venezuelan Man During Minnesota Immigration Raid

Breaking News: ICE Agent Arrested in Shooting Case

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent has been arrested in Texas after being charged with shooting a Venezuelan man during an immigration raid in Minneapolis. Agent Christian Castro, 52, was taken into custody on Friday with help from Texas Rangers and the Department of Homeland Security.

Castro faces four counts of second-degree assault and one count of falsely reporting a crime. The charges are related to the shooting of Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, which occurred on January 14 during Operation Metro Surge, a large-scale immigration enforcement campaign.

Prosecutors allege that Castro fired through the front door of a home, hitting Sosa-Celis in the leg. The bullet also struck the wall of a child’s room. Minnesota officials have expressed support for the arrest, emphasizing that federal agents should face the same legal standards as everyone else.

This incident has drawn significant scrutiny, especially after initial claims by federal authorities about the events leading to the shooting were contradicted by video evidence. Castro is the second federal officer charged this year in relation to Operation Metro Surge.
