Breaking News: Investigation Launched After Child’s Medical Records Accessed
A hospital is investigating after up to 40 staff members accessed the medical records of a three-year-old boy seriously injured in a crocodile pit. The child is currently in stable condition at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
The incident occurred at Johnsons of Old Hurst zoo near Huntingdon. Police were called to the zoo at 13:34 BST on June 18. The boy, visiting with his family, sustained serious injuries while in the enclosure and was rescued by zoo staff.
Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) is looking into whether there were legitimate reasons for the record access. They have referred the matter to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). CUH stated that any staff member found to have accessed patient records without a valid reason will face disciplinary action.
Additionally, a 30-year-old man from Norfolk has been arrested and released on bail on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the incident.
