Breaking News: Record Applications for 2027 London Marathon
A record number of people have applied to participate in the 2027 London Marathon. A total of 1,338,544 applications were submitted, surpassing last year’s record of 1,133,813.
The marathon is scheduled for April 25, 2027. The previous event in 2026 saw a record 59,830 finishers, making it the largest annual one-day fundraising event globally.
Hugh Brasher, chief executive of London Marathon Events, stated that this high number of applicants confirms London as the most desired marathon worldwide. He emphasized the event’s mission to inspire people of all ages and abilities to be active.
The results of the ballot will be announced in early July, with participants selected through a random draw. This year marks the first time over a million applications from the UK alone have been received, with nearly equal numbers of male and female registrants.
Recently, Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe completed the first sub-two-hour marathon in a competitive setting, while Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa set a new women’s world record.
