The Office of Audit and Oversight (AUO) plays a crucial role in safeguarding organizational integrity by providing independent assurance and advisory services. AUO aims to enhance IFAD’s effectiveness by systematically evaluating and improving risk management, control, and governance processes. Additionally, the office investigates irregular practices and promotes a culture of ethics and accountability within IFAD.
Position Summary
The Senior Audit Officer is a key expert responsible for managing a comprehensive range of audit activities. This role involves designing innovative audit methodologies, leading internal audits, and enhancing IFAD’s operational effectiveness, risk management, and governance processes.
Key Responsibilities

Audit Policy and Strategy: Contribute to setting objectives and strategies for the Audit Section by assessing risks and aligning with IFAD’s strategic priorities. Participate in annual risk assessments and plan audits accordingly.

Knowledge Management: Share insights from audit and advisory work with management and governing bodies. Promote governance best practices and collaborate with other UN organizations and financial institutions.

Audit Assignments: Lead complex audits and advisory engagements, defining strategies based on thorough risk analysis. Manage team dynamics, ensuring compliance with quality standards and timely delivery of insights.

Good Governance Practices: Uphold policies and standards while promoting good governance. Collaborate with the AUO Investigation Section on joint engagements and conduct special studies as needed.

Managerial Functions: Oversee audit teams, manage resources, and ensure knowledge management practices are in place. Leverage technology for improved business outcomes.
Performance Indicators
The Senior Audit Officer will conduct complex audits that require a broad analysis of various subjects. Effective audits are crucial to prevent financial losses and maintain credibility with stakeholders. Timely delivery of quality insights and recommendations is essential.
Working Relationships
This role involves representing AUO to internal and external clients, providing authoritative advice, and building collaborative networks. The Senior Audit Officer will also engage in training and awareness activities related to internal audits and risk management.
Qualifications
- Education: Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in a relevant field.
- Experience: Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in auditing within international organizations or financial institutions.
- Certifications: Professional audit qualification (e.g., CPA, CIA, CISA).
- Languages: Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of French, Spanish, or Arabic is desirable.
