Urgent: NUH Fined £800,000 After Care Failures in Death of Baby Wynter, Family Calls for NHS Accountability

Breaking News: Hospital Faces Criticism After Infant Death

Gary and Sarah Andrews’s daughter, Wynter, died in 2019, just 23 minutes after birth. The Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) was fined £800,000 in January 2023 after admitting to failures in the care of Wynter and Sarah.

Gary Andrews stated that a newly published report should alert the NHS to prevent past mistakes from happening again. The couple has a four-year-old son, Bowie. Sarah Andrews expressed that it is difficult to watch Bowie grow while missing milestones with Wynter.

She emphasized that families should not have to fight for accountability in such situations. Sherwood Forest MP Michelle Welsh, who has personal experience with birth trauma at the trust, called the report a “watershed moment.”

Welsh noted that over 2,500 families and more than 700 staff members have reported serious issues at the hospital, including women being ignored and treated poorly. She stated that this report should be a catalyst for change within the NHS.
