Breaking News: Ticketing Issues at World Cup
Experts are raising concerns about ticketing problems related to the World Cup. Scott Friedman, co-founder of the Ticket Talk Network, has reported over 600 consumer complaints linked to ticket sales this tournament.
Friedman places full blame on StubHub, stating their ticketing technology is outdated. While StubHub claims to prohibit speculative ticketing, many users believe the practice continues.
Some sellers are also facing issues. One seller in Austin lost $2,600 after his legally purchased ticket was canceled by StubHub. Although he sold the ticket for $1,200, StubHub cited “non-fulfillment,” withheld his payout, and imposed a $1,400 penalty.
Attorney Bradford Clements, who represents clients with over $2.4 million in claims against StubHub, says the company’s dispute process is complicated and discourages consumers from seeking redress. StubHub has not commented on these accusations.
It is unclear how many people have faced issues with tickets from StubHub or other resale sites. Many fans have expressed their frustrations online, and reports suggest thousands may have had their tickets canceled.
As the World Cup progresses, industry watchdogs warn that ticket cancellations may increase, leaving more fans without access to the games. StubHub has stated it is working to provide replacement tickets and offers a refund guarantee for affected customers.
