Breaking News: IMO Pauses Evacuation of Sailors in Strait of Hormuz

The United Nations’ International Maritime Organization (IMO) has halted the evacuation of over 11,000 sailors stranded in the Strait of Hormuz. This decision follows an attack on a cargo ship in the area.

IMO chief Arsenio Dominguez confirmed that some boats had been evacuated, but safety guarantees were a priority. The British maritime security agency UKMTO reported that a vessel was hit by an unknown projectile near Oman’s port of Dahit. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

The Singapore-flagged ship, Ever Lovely, continued its journey despite the incident. Hundreds of ships and sailors have been stuck in the Gulf since February due to ongoing conflicts.

Dominguez stated that the attacked vessel did not fall under the IMO’s evacuation plan. He emphasized the importance of seafarer safety, leading to the pause in the evacuation until more information is available.

In related news, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is currently in Bahrain discussing a recent deal with Iran regarding maritime safety. The situation remains tense as Iran expresses intentions to impose charges for crossing the strait, which the US opposes.
