About Rescue Dada Centre

Rescue Dada Centre is a registered Charitable Children’s Institution (CCI) under the legal trusteeship of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi. Established in 1992, our mission is to reduce the number of street-connected children in Nairobi, with a specific focus on empowering girls. We strive to help these girls reach their full potential while enhancing the livelihood security of their caregivers.

Our Centre implements both preventive and curative interventions, including the rescue, rehabilitation, reintegration, and resocialization of street-connected girls into safe and supportive family environments. Additionally, we provide educational sponsorship, strengthen caregivers’ skills and economic capacity, and promote community and governmental commitment to uphold and protect children’s rights.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a dedicated Teacher to join our team. Reporting to the Head of Department, the Teacher will address the educational and social needs of young girls and vulnerable young mothers with low literacy levels enrolled in our Child Protection Programme and Cosmetology training. The ideal candidate will treat all students with respect, sensitivity, and affection while maintaining discipline without physical punishment. Flexibility is essential, as the requirements may vary based on the current needs at the Centre. A commitment to promoting children’s rights is crucial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with staff to conduct academic and special needs assessments for all girls in the Child Protection Programme, identifying their educational needs and placing them in appropriate classes.
  • Establish educational objectives with each girl and vulnerable mother, outlining how to achieve these goals each term.
  • Provide special and literacy education to support the development of basic literacy, mental, emotional, and social skills.
  • Utilize age-appropriate teaching methods to create an enjoyable learning environment.
  • Develop and maintain teaching aids, ensuring their effective use.
  • Keep a personal educational file for each girl and vulnerable mother in the basic literacy class for documentation purposes.
  • Conduct regular progress assessments for all students based on defined individual goals.
  • Organize extracurricular activities to promote physical well-being, teamwork, and talent development.
  • Assist educational staff in supervising extracurricular activities and ensuring the safety of all girls.
  • Facilitate the spiritual and moral growth of students through weekly religious instruction, monthly mass, and daily prayers.
  • Collaborate closely with Child Protection Programme staff to ensure quality, holistic care for all enrolled girls.

Personal Profile

Education and Experience Required:

  • A Diploma in Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) or a P1 Certificate from a recognized institution.
  • A strong understanding of Competency-Based Education (CBE) implementation; CBE certification is an advantage.
  • At least two years of relevant work experience.
  • Solid knowledge of children’s rights and their promotion through social services.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
