Job Title: Safety & Wellness Specialist

Organization Overview:
Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a prominent nonsectarian, voluntary organization dedicated to providing relief, protection, and resettlement services for refugees and individuals affected by oppression or violent conflict. The IRC has been active in Phoenix, Arizona since 1994, assisting newly arrived refugees with reception and placement services, and offering comprehensive support from their arrival through to citizenship.

Position Summary:
The Safety & Wellness Specialist will work closely with Humanitarian Reception coordinators and casework staff to assess client needs, support outreach initiatives, and connect individuals with community resources. This role also involves providing assistance across the Phoenix office as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Humanitarian Reception Program:

    • Facilitate client enrollment based on arrival patterns.
    • Maintain case files and input program data accurately.
    • Collaborate with the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) team to provide client support.
  2. DEPTH Research Project:

    • Identify and engage participants, coordinate outreach, conduct surveys and interviews, and manage participant care.
    • Deliver direct support and services to participants.
  3. Casework Support:

    • Offer trauma-informed, client-centered services to Safety & Wellness clients.
    • Assess client needs, connect them to appropriate services, and develop referral plans in line with program eligibility.
    • Provide light-touch case support, including assessments, crisis intervention, and resource referrals.
  4. Program and Team Support:

    • Participate in team meetings, staff development, and collaborative activities.
    • Adhere to all IRC policies and procedures.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field is preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered.

  • Experience:

    • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, including at least 1 year working with asylum seekers, victims of crime, or other vulnerable populations.
    • Strong understanding of asylum issues, laws, and victim needs.
    • Preferred experience in case management and victim assistance, as well as conducting training and outreach.
  • Skills:

    • Exceptional relationship-building, diplomacy, and networking abilities.
    • Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving skills; adept at multitasking and prioritizing responsibilities.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in additional languages such as Spanish, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Arabic, or French is a plus.
    • Organizational skills with attention to detail and analytical abilities.
    • Experience in public speaking or presentations is preferred.
    • Computer literacy and database management experience are advantageous.
    • Ability to work independently while being a flexible team player.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • A valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation are required.
  • Must be eligible for a fingerprint clearance card in accordance with Arizona state law.

Work Environment:
This position involves a mix of standard office work, remote tasks, and fieldwork within the service delivery area. Occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary, and the ability to lift 35 to 50 pounds is required.

Compensation:
The pay rate for this position is $23.50 per hour. Compensation is determined based on various factors, including labor market conditions, job type, and individual qualifications.
